Foods to Avoid During Pregnancy: The Complete Prohibition List
• Tim Kelas Antenatal & Postnatal
A pregnant mother’s immune system operates at diminished capacity to protect the fetus. Preventing severe food poisoning from pathogens like Salmonella, Listeria, and E.coli is vital.
1. Raw Seafood (Sushi & Oysters)
Can harbor water-borne parasites. Always consume thoroughly cooked fish.
2. High-Mercury Fish
Predatory maritime species like shark, marlin, swordfish, and king mackerel harbor neurotoxic mercury levels that compromise fetal brain development.
3. Under-cooked Eggs & Soft Cheeses
Runny eggs may contain Salmonella. Soft unpasteurized cheeses like Brie or Gorgonzola risk fatal Listeria infections.
4. Excessive Caffeine
Restrict caffeine to a maximum threshold of 200mg daily. Caffeine easily traverses the placenta and restricts fetal birth weight.
