Managing Heartburn During The Third Trimester
• Tim Kelas Antenatal & Postnatal
Progesterone hormones relax the stomach’s sphincter valve. When combined with the massive growing uterus pressing upward against the stomach, acid reflux (heartburn) becomes inevitable.
Tips For Relief
- Small But Frequent Meals: Switch to 5-6 micro-meals a day.
- Limit Liquid During Eating: Drink fluids mostly between meal times rather than during meals.
- Never Lie Down Immediately: Allow 2-3 hours of upright posture after eating.
- Prop Up Your Head: Use pillows to elevate your upper body or sleep on your left side to minimize acid escape.
