Managing Heartburn During The Third Trimester

Tim Kelas Antenatal & Postnatal

Progesterone hormones relax the stomach’s sphincter valve. When combined with the massive growing uterus pressing upward against the stomach, acid reflux (heartburn) becomes inevitable.

Tips For Relief

  1. Small But Frequent Meals: Switch to 5-6 micro-meals a day.
  2. Limit Liquid During Eating: Drink fluids mostly between meal times rather than during meals.
  3. Never Lie Down Immediately: Allow 2-3 hours of upright posture after eating.
  4. Prop Up Your Head: Use pillows to elevate your upper body or sleep on your left side to minimize acid escape.
